The driver of a BMW stopped for having illegally tinted windows was arrested after a loaded revolver, cocaine and marijuana were found in the car, police said.
The incident occurred during a traffic stop by a Nassau County Fifth Precinct officer early Thursday on West Merrick Road in Valley Stream.
The driver, Anthony Daley, 29, of Greenwood Place, Valley Stream, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and for having tinted side windows and an obstructed driver’s view, police said.
Daley was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead and was ordered held on $250,000 bond or $125,000 cash bail. He is represented by a Legal Aid attorney and is next scheduled to return to court Monday.
Police said the officer was on routine patrol when he saw the gray 2007 BMW traveling eastbound on West Merrick Road and initiated the stop near South Corona Avenue at 1:03 a.m.
“As the officer approached the vehicle he observed the driver moving his arms down near the driver side door and floor and noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside the automobile,” police said in a description of the events.
The officer said he later saw what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette on the center console of the car and said that during a subsequent search of the vehicle police found a loaded silver Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver, two small pink bags containing cocaine and a small clear bag containing marijuana were recovered.
