A Hempstead man was arrested not long after stealing a laptop and safe from a home in Westbury on Monday, police said.

Nassau County officers responded to a report of a home burglary at Aster Place South about 1:10 p.m., according to police.

The officers stopped Damien Onwubuemeli, who police said matched the description of the burglar, at the corner of Old Country Road and Brooklyn Avenue — less than 1⁄4 mile away.

Onwubuemeli, 21, of Clinton Street, was found with the laptop and safe, which were stolen from the home, police said.

Onwubuemeli is being charged with one count of second-degree burglary. He was arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead and is being held on $25,000 cash or bond, online court records show.
