A Hempstead man was arraigned on sexual assault charges for an incident at an East Meadow motel last year, State Police said Friday.
A nine-month investigation by troopers stationed in Brentwood for an alleged rape at the Coliseum Motor Inn on Hempstead Turnpike led to the arrest of Kassi Ajavon, 21, who was taken into custody on Wednesday, police said in a news release.
Ajavon was charged with first-degree rape, third-degree rape, criminal obstruction of breathing, and third-degree patronizing a person for prostitution in connection with the Aug. 11 incident, according to a news release issued by police and court records.
Ajavon pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at Nassau County Supreme Court on Thursday, where a judge set bail at $250,000 cash or bond, court records show. He has a court-appointed attorney, according to court records. He was transported to Erie County Jail, where he is incarcerated on unrelated charges, State Police said.
He is due back in court on June 14.
