A man and a woman accused of selling heroin to a Glen Cove man who overdosed and died have been arrested, authorities said.
Eveen Cullum, 26, of Glen Cove, and Chelsea Prendergast, 25, of Glen Head, were taken into custody about 10 p.m. Tuesday as they sat in a Jeep in the parking lot of a pizza restaurant on Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Cove, according to authorities. Police seized unspecified quantities of heroin, cocaine and cash.
Earlier that night, the victim was found dead in his home on Fairmont Place by his neighbor, who called police shortly after 7:30 p.m. Authorities did not release the name of the victim.
“Today’s tragedy highlights the need for everyone to be hypervigilant in the fight against heroin addiction,” Glen Cove Police Chief William Whitton said in a statement.
Detectives were able to quickly trace the drugs to Cullum and Prendergast, officials said. The two were arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead, officials said.
Cullum was charged with sale and possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and traffic violations, police said. Prendergast was charged with sale and possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Cullum was held on $200,000 bond or cash, while Prendergast was held on $75,000 cash or bond, according to court records.
Lawyers representing Cullum and Prendergast did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
