Police investigate Hicksville Mobil gas station robbery

A man stole cash from the register of a Mobil gas station in Hicksville early Monday after an accomplice lured an attendant outside with a complaint of a malfunctioning bathroom key, police said.

There was a brief struggle as the 49-year-old attendant realized what was going on — and tried to stop the pair, Nassau County police said.

The attendant was not injured, police said.

The thieves got away on foot.

Police said the robbery at the Mobil station on North Broadway occurred at 12:34 a.m., when one of the suspects convinced the attendant that “the key issued to him” would not open an outside bathroom door. While the attendant attempted to assist the suspect, police said, a second suspect entered the station — and emptied the register.

Police did not say how much was taken.

But, police said that when the attendant caught on to the ruse and attempted to stop the robbery the second suspect “forcefully pushed” a newspaper rack into him, then fled the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-8477.

All calls will remain confidential.
