A man tried to grab a fifth-grader walking to school in Westbury on Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said in asking for the public’s help to find him.

The suspect never said a word as he approached the 10-year-old girl from behind and grabbed her arm about 9:15 a.m. at the corner of Grand Street and Winthrop Avenue, police said.

The girl broke free and hid from him until he fled the area, police said.

The student was not injured but ran to school and reported the confrontation, police said.

The suspect was heavy set and wore an orange T-shirt, shorts and work boots, police said. He was last seen heading east on Winthrop Avenue toward Post Avenue, police said.

Police released a composite drawing and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or the Third Precinct detectives at 516-573-6353.
