One man was arrested and police are searching for his accomplice after an early morning gunpoint robbery at a 7-Eleven store in Valley Stream on Thursday, Nassau County police said.
Douglas Simon, 36, of Francis Lewis Boulevard in Laurelton, Queens, was arrested on Meyer Avenue at 2:22 a.m., police said. The arrest came less than two hours after the robbery and barely a block from the 7-Eleven on North Central Avenue. The accomplice is still being sought by police.
Police said Simon and an accomplice entered the 7-Eleven around 12:15 a.m., one of the suspects pointing a black handgun at a store employee, demanding the employee open the register, while the other suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash.
There were two employees in the store at the time, police said. Neither was hurt.
Police said the suspects were seen fleeing onto nearby Meyer Avenue, where they entered a gray 2010 Audi A4.
A responding Fifth Precinct officer located the car a short time later on North Montgomery Street, just blocks from the scene, but said the suspects exited the car — and fled on foot.
Simon was later found on Meyer, where he was arrested. He is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery as well as with criminal trespass. He faces arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
