Authorities are investigating the stabbing of a man on a street in Patchogue, Suffolk County police said Sunday.

Assistant Police Commissioner Justin Meyers said the stabbing took place on East Main Street, west of Grove Avenue, about 8:40 p.m. Saturday while the 18-year-old male victim was involved in an altercation with an unknown man.

Meyers said the victim was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated and released.

“The investigating is continuing,” said Meyers, who asked anyone with information on the circumstances surrounding the stabbing or the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
