A Copiague man who was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in North Amityville Sunday night has died, Suffolk County police said Tuesday.

Pierre Prophete, 23, was pronounced dead Monday morning at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip from injuries suffered in the crash that left three other people seriously hurt, police said.

Police are still looking for the driver of a 2007 Infiniti, who fled the scene.

According to a police report, the collision happened about 8 p.m. when a 2008 BMW and the Infiniti sideswiped each other as they traveled south on New Highway at a high rate of speed.

Police said the BMW, driven by Michael Plummer, 33, of North Amityville, went off the road and struck a fence. The Infiniti then crashed into the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer traveling south on New Highway, causing the Chevrolet to overturn.

The Infiniti then hit two vehicles parked in front of 475 New Hwy. and the driver of the Infiniti ran away, police said.

Prophete was a backseat passenger in the Chevrolet, which was driven by Junior Joachim, 32, of North Amityville, police said.

Prophete, Plummer and Joachim’s front-seat passenger, Steve Clavin, 28, also of North Amityville, were taken to Good Samaritan with serious injuries.

Joachim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, also with serious injuries, police said.

Detectives are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the accident and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, stopped at the scene or has information on the Infiniti driver who fled, to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
