A 30-year-old man suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” when police said he was shot twice as he stood with a group of people Wednesday morning on a street in Greenlawn.

Suffolk County police identified the victim as Omar Fuentes, of Greenlawn, and said he was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Greenlawn Fire Department, suffering from gun shots to the hip. Police did not detail the number of shots fired.

Police said Fuentes was “standing with a group of people” in front of a Broadway address when “a man approached the group” — and opened fire. The suspect then fled south on Broadway, according to police. No motive was provided by police.

The shooting is being investigated by Second Squad detectives. Police described the suspect only as being “short” and “thin” and as having worn all black clothing.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is being asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-8477. All calls will remain confidential.
