Police: SUV driver arrested after Riverside crash

A Flanders man was driving impaired Sunday when he crashed his sport utility vehicle into one of two vehicles that already had crashed into each other in Riverside, Southampton Town Police said.

Dilan Monroy Suret, 36, is charged with impaired driving and unlicensed operation, police said. He also was being held on an outstanding bench warrant and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

A white 2014 Nissan Sentra driven by David Williams, 58, of Flanders, struck a 2013 Toyota Tacoma operated by Christian Ortiz, 32, of Hampton Bays, head on in the eastbound lane on Flanders Road, west of Whitebrook Drive, shortly before 7 p.m., police said.

Suret then drove his 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac into the white Nissan, police said.

Williams was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ortiz was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Hampton Bays where he also was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Suret refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. He subsequently was found to have been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was arrested, police said.

Police said they are still investigating. Anyone with more information can call Southampton Town Police at 631-702-2230 or the crime hotline at 631-728-3454. All calls will remain confidential.
