Riverhead man robbed at gunpoint, police say

A group of men robbed a Riverhead man at gunpoint late Tuesday, taking his cellphone and cash, Riverhead Town police said.

The victim, 23, told police he was robbed just before 9 p.m. on Prospect Place. A group of men took the items then fled through an apartment complex on East Main Street, according to a news release.

Police said they searched with a canine unit and evidence was recovered.

The release did not specify the evidence recovered. Police said the investigation is continuing.
