Cops: Woman robbed in parking lot of Riverhead coin-op laundry

Riverhead police are seeking the public’s help in finding two men who robbed a woman at gunpoint early Sunday in the parking lot of a coin-operated laundry.

There were no injuries.

According to police the robbery happened at about 12:45 a.m. at the Laundry Palace on Harrison Avenue in Riverhead while the 35-year-old woman was sitting in her car.

Police said two men approached the car and one opened the passenger-side door and displayed what the victim described as a black handgun. The suspect then took her handbag from a passenger seat.

The suspects fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.

“Riverhead Police sector units along with a New York State Police K-9 unit responded and checked the area,” police said in a news release. “The search of the area by the NYSP K-9 unit proved to have negative results.”

Police said the handbag contained an unknown amount of cash.
