A Ronkonkoma woman who stole back a dog she’d given away faces a burglary charge, Nassau County police said Tuesday.
Jaime Grant-Hewson, 35, of Boulder St., is charged with second-degree burglary after she and a friend pilfered a Jack Russell terrier from a Hicksville home last month, police said.
Two years ago, Grant-Hewson had given her dog to a woman, 50, citing a hardship, police said.
Recently, she asked for the dog to be returned, and the woman refused, according to a news release.
Grant-Hewson and Samantha Leo, 35, of Chestnut Street in Islip, went to the woman’s home on Moeller Street at about 6:25 p.m. on July 23, police said.
As Leo remained in the vehicle, Grant-Hewson pried a front window open to enter the home and remove the dog, police said.
After an investigation by Second Squad detectives, both Grant-Hewson and Leo were arrested Tuesday; Leo also is charged with second-degree burglary, police said.
The dog was returned to the woman, police said.
Grant-Hewson and Leo are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
