A Sea Cliff motorist released pepper spray into another driver’s vehicle in a road rage incident Tuesday at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, Nassau police said.
Police said Robert G. Labella, 58, cut in front of a vehicle at the mall entrance off Newbridge Road about 3:20 p.m. and started yelling obscenities at a second driver, who had his son, 14, and daughter, 19, as passengers.
Then in the Target parking lot, the second driver tried to get the license plate on Labella’s vehicle, police said, and Labella approached him, shaking a can of pepper spray before hitting the victim and his children with doses of the chemical irritant.
The second driver and a witness tried to subdue Labella, who slammed the witness’ wrist into a parked car, police said.
Labella fled the area, said police, who located him at his Eighth Avenue home Tuesday night.
Police said he was expected to be arraigned Wednesday on three felony counts of second-degree assault and several misdemeanors: fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
