Security guard shot outside Hempstead bar dies

The security guard shot in the head last week outside a Hempstead bar has died, Nassau County police said Thursday.

David Nestor Moreno, 22, was pronounced dead Monday at 6:30 p.m. by doctors at Nassau County University Medical Center in East Meadow, police said.

Joan Eames, a spokeswoman for the county police department, said Thursday that no arrests have been made and police have no further updates.

Over the weekend, police had said Moreno was shot at when he opened the door of El Rancho Bar and Grill about 11:20 p.m. Saturday. The bullet struck Moreno between the eyes, Hempstead Village police had said.

Moreno's shooting came within hours of two separate violent incidents in the village: Warren Lewis, 17, was stabbed in the stomach after leaving a house party on Princeton Street that police had broken up and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the hand around 5 p.m. near Allen and South Franklin streets. Neither was fatal.
