Police in the Southampton area are searching for the driver of a maroon car who investigators said has approached female victims on at least three occasions in recent months, pulling up to them in his car — and masturbating.

The incidents date to at least December, Southampton Town police said Thursday, when they released a partial photograph of the suspect’s vehicle.

Police said that in the first reported incident the driver, described as a thin, male with reddish-brown dreadlocks and a goatee, approached and masturbated in view of a female teen as she walked along Graham Road in Hampton Bays. Earlier this month, a woman reported that she was seated in her vehicle waiting for a school bus when the driver of a maroon car pulled alongside her and began masturbating. The woman told responding officers a similar incident had occurred in January, though she had not reported it.

Police asked anyone with information about these or any other instances of public lewdness to call investigators at 631-702-2230 or the Southampton Town Police Tips Hotline at 631-728-3454.
