Southold man arrested in shotgun thefts, police say

A Southold man has been arrested in the burglaries of two local barns in recent weeks and the theft of a shotgun from each one, police said.

Colin Volinski, 28, was charged with two counts of burglary, Southold Town police said. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon because he had a prior criminal conviction, police said. Police did not immediately have details about the prior conviction.

Volinski was arrested Monday at his home on Main Road, where officers found two shotguns, police said.

One of the guns was stolen from a barn in the overnight hours of April 9 and April 10 and the other was stolen from a barn between March 20 and March 22, police said.
