SPCA: Riverhead woman charged with cruelty after dog’s death

A Riverhead woman was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after Suffolk County SPCA officials said she failed to care for her dog, leading to its death.

SPCA officials said Tiffany Norris, 33, of Zion Road, was arrested on July 20 because she “severely neglected” a German shepherd, failing to give it food and medical care. The dog was suffering to the point where it had to be euthanized, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

Norris is currently being held by police in Riverhead. She was arraigned on July 20 at Riverhead Criminal Court and her bail was set at $500, which she did not post, the court said.

Norris is due back in court on Aug. 2. She is represented by the Suffolk Legal Aid Society.

Acts of animal cruelty or neglect should be reported to the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
