A Brooklyn man stopped for a traffic violation on the Sagtikos State Parkway jumped out of his car and fled onto the grounds of Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood, where he was arrested a short time later, State Police said.
The car had been stolen in Brooklyn, and driver Sean Connors, 46, had been driving while impaired by drugs, police said.
Connors was driving southbound on the parkway about 12:20 p.m. Sunday when his Toyota Camry was pulled over for a traffic violation, police said.
After he fled, police mounted a search operation that included the Suffolk County Police Department, a Suffolk County canine unit, a county police helicopter and officers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
Connors was being held for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip on charges of possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and traffic violations, police said.
