Suffolk cops: Man shot in ankle in Wyandanch

Someone with a gun fired into a group of people on a Wyandanch corner Friday night, hitting a man in the ankle, Suffolk police said.

Witnesses told investigators that people at the corner of North 15th Street and Merritt Avenue had argued shortly before someone ran up with a gun and fired four shots, police said.

The incident happened about 6 p.m., First Precinct detectives said.

The victim, a 36-year-old Wyandanch man, was hit in the right ankle, and a friend drove him to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, detectives said.

It was not clear if the victim was the target, but he was expected to recover, police said.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8152.
