A traffic stop of a rental truck turned into a burglary bust Sunday in Southampton when an alert officer noticed the vehicle was “stocked” with brand new appliances, police said.

Three Suffolk County men — Darnell W. Giles, 49, of West Babylon; Christopher W. Stewart, 43, of Flanders; and, Matthew R. Manzella, 27, of Flanders — were arrested after the stop and charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools and possession of stolen property, Southampton Town police said. Giles and Stewart were remanded without bail, police said, while Manzella was ordered held on $6,000 cash bail.

Police said that after the stop for an undisclosed traffic infraction, detectives investigated and learned some items were from a burglary on North Sea Mecox Road, while other items were from a construction job site on Sebonac Road. Police said their investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding the crimes — or the trio — is being asked to call detectives at 631-702-2230.
