Taxi driver shot and robbed in Roosevelt, Nassau police say

Nassau County police are looking for a gunman who shot and robbed a cabdriver in Roosevelt late Monday.

Police said the gunman fired into the back of the driver, a man, 38, at about 10:50 p.m. on West Raymond Avenue.

The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver arrived to pick up a fare when the suspect approached his cab, police said.

The suspect, wearing a red, black and white hooded shirt, opened the rear door on the driver’s side and fired, police said.

He then opened the driver’s door, holding his gun and demanding money.

The driver turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect fled north through a yard on West Raymond Avenue.
