Teen shot in the leg in Hempstead, police say

Nassau County police are investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old man Saturday night in Hempstead.

Third Squad detectives said the shooting happened shortly before 10:15 p.m. while the victim was walking with friends in the vicinity of Martin Luther King Drive and East Graham Avenue.

Police said gunshots were heard and the victim realized he had been shot in the leg.

The victim was able to run from the scene and went into a local deli where he fell to the floor, police added. Authorities said 911 was contacted and Hempstead Police responded to the scene.

Police said the teenager was then taken to an area hospital for treatment.
