A Wyandanch man was arrested Friday night after he was found with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Terrance Ward, 41, of 12 Pine St., failed to stop at a stop sign on North 15th Street in Wyandanch at about 7:50 p.m., prompting First Precinct officers to pull him over.

During the investigation, the officers found a loaded defaced .45-caliber handgun.

Ward was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Ward was being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
