Suffolk police on Tuesday arrested the second of two Wyandanch men who they say committed dozens of larcenies at several department stores since May.
Tevon Gray, 22, was arrested at the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday and charged with 25 counts of petty larceny, Suffolk police said. James Allen III, 21, was arrested on July 24 and charged with 12 counts of petty larceny, and nine counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said the arrests came after Fifth Precinct Officers John McGay and Tracy Barry began investigating the June 27 theft of Dyson vacuum cleaners from a Sayville Target.
Their use of a tracking system revealed that the merchandise had been exchanged at a pawnshop, police said. The officers soon found out that other items stolen from Target, Loews, and Home Depot stores had been pawned as well.
They examined security footage of some of the larcenies and identified the suspects whose heists, police said, netted about $700 in merchandise each time.
Allen is being held at the Suffolk jail in Yaphank, while Gray is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
Their attorneys could not be reached for comment.
