Nassau police said a gunman in a baseball cap shot and seriously injured two men early Sunday as the victims stood in front of an Elmont home.

Both shooting victims were transferred to hospitals after the shooting about 5:15 a.m., where, authorities said, both were listed in serious but stable condition Sunday afternoon.

One victim, 26, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm and leg while another bullet struck the other man, 28, in the abdomen, police said.

The gunman, who wore a light-colored jacket, fled and remained on the loose Sunday afternoon, police said. He is suspected of opening fire as the victims stood in front of a home near the corner of 239th Street and 117 Avenue in Elmont, police said.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about the shooting to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-8477. Callers will remain anonymous.
