Uniondale woman awakened by would-be burglar, police say

A Uniondale woman woke up at night to see two hands coming into her house through an open window, police said.

The woman, 45, was asleep in her house on Cornwell Avenue when she heard a noise about 11 p.m. Monday, Nassau County police said.

She went to the window, opened the shades, noticed the screen was damaged and saw a man standing below the window, police said.

The woman called police with a description of the man, and Jamali Johnson, 30, of Uniondale, was arrested a short time later about two blocks away, police said.

Johnson was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of attempted burglary and criminal mischief, online court records show.
