Suffolk County police officers said they arrested a Bayport man on Wednesday as he was trying to drill his way into a coin-operated vacuum in Ronkonkoma — and then charged him with a string of nearly a dozen other larcenies at gas stations over the past two weeks.
Anthony Pitocco, 29, of Terrace Road, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip on charges of fourth-degree grand larceny, second-, third-, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, and petty larceny.
Pitocco was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday after he was observed drilling into the lock of a coin-operated vacuum at a BP gas station at 2840 Pond Rd. in Ronkonkoma, police said.
He was also linked to larcenies of vacuums and air machines at gas stations in Bohemia, Centereach, East Patchogue, Holbrook, Holtsville, Islip Terrace, Medford, Oakdale and elsewhere in Ronkonkoma, police said.
Police did not say how much money he allegedly stole.
Pitocco was being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct, police said. It was unclear whether he had retained an attorney.
