Wantagh schoolgirls report luring incident, police say

Nassau County police said Wednesday they are looking for a man who tried to lure two 10-year-old girls into his car in Wantagh.

Police said the incident happened at about 5:40 p.m. Monday as the two girls were walking on Briard Street, just north of Stratford Road.

Seventh Squad detectives said the girls told them a four-door black car with black rims and tinted windows pulled up alongside them and the driver asked them to follow him.

He continued driving to Manchester Road, where he made a U-turn and drove back toward them, detectives said. He then stopped, got out of his car and asked the girls why they were running from him.

The two girls ran to one of their homes, where they told a parent what had happened, police said.

The girls were not injured, and they described the driver as about 5-foot-8, in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a black T-shirt, bluejeans and sneakers, police said.

Anyone with more information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All information will be kept confidential.
