A homeless woman was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond after authorities said she fatally stabbed a homeless male acquaintance in a parking lot Tuesday night in Coram.
Ada Robinson, 60, was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip, charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Ralph Anthony, 55.
Robinson was arrested at the scene of the stabbing, the parking lot at Coram Plaza, where a Stop & Shop and Home Depot are located, on Middle Country Road. The arrest was made about 7:30 p.m. by Suffolk County Sixth Precinct officers, who had responded to a 911 call.
According to court records, a witness told police Robinson was Anthony’s girlfriend. The witness told police the couple were known in the area. He said he saw Robinson and Anthony who he knew as Star arguing in the parking lot then witnessed the man push the woman and smack her in the face. That’s when the witness said Robinson “came back at Star with green handled knife” and stabbed Anthony “somewhere near his stomach,” the complaint said.
He told police Anthony walked away but fell down on a nearby sidewalk. He said Robinson ran to Anthony — and tried to perform CPR on the wounded man.
Police said Anthony was taken by Coram Fire Department Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
