Four people, including three bartenders, were arrested Sunday after a Suffolk County police investigation into complaints of drug use and underage drinking at a bar in West Sayville.

Fifth Precinct plainclothes officers conducted the probe inside Scotty's Pub, at 227 Montauk Hwy., and used underage agents to make purchases of alcoholic beverages. Police said the officers saw bartenders serving alcohol to about 20 underage patrons and illegal drug use in the bar.

Uniformed officers later entered the bar and conducted an inspection that resulted in the arrest of three bartenders; Wyatt Whelan, 24; Timothy Carey, 22; and Robert Newell 21, all of West Sayville. They were charged with unlawfully dealing with a child.

A patron, Brendan Clemente, 21, of West Sayville, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Scotty's Pub was cited for numerous violations of Alcoholic Beverage Control law and will be subject to penalties imposed by the New York State Liquor Authority, police said.

Whelan, Carey, Newell and Clemente were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 14.

The operation was part of an ongoing effort by the Suffolk County Police Department to ensure compliance of laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol.
