Feds measure size of local economy

Prototype data traces the value of goods and services by county

Nassau had a $84.3 billion economy in 2015 and Suffolk followed with $78.4 billion, according to prototype statistics for gross domestic product released by the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis. The four outer boroughs of New York trailed Long Island's two counties, but every county trailed Manhattan, which registered a $630 billion economy in 2015.

Here are details for the seven counties, adjusted for inflation and broken down by year and by sector (private goods-producing industries, private services-providing industries and government and government enterprises). This database was posted on Dec. 12, 2018.

Service providing sector dominates. (Figures are in thousands of dollars.)

And the values in Suffolk
