January job levels on Long Island

Small year-over-year job growth for the month, with the health sector leading the gains.

Long Island gained 6,200 jobs in January 2019 compared with January 2018, a 0.5 percent increase, according to new data from the state Labor Department. The health services and education sector gained 9,300 jobs over the year for a 3.5 percent rise, and the construction, natural resources and mining sector was up 7.8 percent for the year with an additional 5,900 jobs.

The professional and business services sector lost the most jobs, 9,100, for a 5.5 percent decline. The table, which gives a more detailed breakdown by sector and subsector, was posted on March 7, 2019. And you can read more about Long Island jobs here.
