Long Island job levels for April

Long Island gained 6,500 jobs in April 2019 compared with April 2018, a 0.5 percent increase, according to new data from the state Labor Department. Education and health services had the biggest increase, up 3.9 percent with 10,600 new positions, while the construction sector was up 6.6 percent with 5,500 new jobs. The professional and business services sector lost 6,800 jobs over the year for a 3.9 percent drop. The first chart animates job levels for the 10 sectors on Long Island from 1990-2019.
