The East Islip school district is holding a revote Tuesday on a $124,910 proposition to expand busing for students in grades four through 12.
If the proposal is approved, students in grades four and five would be eligible for bus rides if they live a half-mile or more from school. Older students would be eligible, if they live a mile or more away.
Current distance requirements are 1 mile and 1 1/2 miles, respectively.
The dollar amount included in the proposition covers the remainder of the current school year. Estimated cost for the entire 2010-11 school year would be about $200,000.
East Islip's school-board majority agreed to put the plan on the ballot in September, after receiving petitions from about 400 parents.
Voting is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in four elementary schools: Ruth C. Kenny, Connetquot, John F. Kennedy and Timber Point.
