7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Park-Bellerose School and John Lewis Childs School.
The district proposes a budget of $30,230,573 for 2017-18, a 2.36 percent increase from the current $29,532,238. The tax levy would increase by 1.99 percent, from $22,393,721 to $22,839,920. This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family house would increase by 1.99 percent, from $2,811 to $2,867.
The proposed budget includes a salary increase of 0.5 percent and a 1.5 percent step increase for teachers. A part-time English as a New Language teacher position would be added, and school nursing services would be expanded by increasing a nurse’s schedule from 28 hours to 35 hours a week. A week would be added to the district’s pre-K program by starting classes at the beginning of October instead of after Columbus Day.
A proposition asks voters to approve the Sewanhaka Central High School District’s 2017-18 budget of $193,070,535.
