Lindenhurst school district

VOTING

6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Albany Avenue Elementary School, William Rall Elementary School, Harding Avenue Elementary School, Daniel Street Elementary School and Lindenhurst Middle School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $151,534,773 budget for 2016-17, a 2.05 percent increase over the current $148,495,451. The tax levy would rise by 1.02 percent, from $93,914,649 to $94,867,892.

This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority will be needed to approve the budget.

School taxes on the average single-family home would rise by 1.01 percent, from $7,593.26 to $7,670.33.

The proposed budget includes a step increase of 1.6 percent for teachers. It would cut six teachers due to declining enrollment, and the Alternative Learning Center after-school program also would be eliminated. The high school would add AP Human Geography and AP Macroeconomics, and expand the science-research class to daily sessions.
