Oceanside school district

VOTING

7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at School #5, School #6, School #8 and Oceanside High School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $147,241,588 budget for 2016-17, a 1.97 percent increase from the current $144,399,509. The tax levy would increase by 0.43 percent, from $116,648,293 to $117,147,135.

This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home were not available from the district.

The proposed budget would fund a contractual increase for teachers of 2 percent and a 1 percent average step increase. It would eliminate 5.4 teacher positions primarily due to enrollment, while adding 1.35 teachers for curriculum needs. The proposed budget does not include any cuts in programs or services.
