Winning Essay for VFW

Mineola student wins.

David E. Reyes, an eighth grade student at Mineola Middle School, was chosen to represent Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1305 at the district level for his winning essay. After winning at the county-level, David’s essay “When Is It the Right Time to Honor Our Military Heroes?” is now advancing to the district level to compete against other essay winners from Suffolk, Nassau, Queens and Brooklyn.

For his exceptional essay, David was visited by Mr. Manny Grillo, Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Private Aldolpf Block Post 1305-Mineola. Commander Grillo presented David with the Patriot’s Pen Award for his Nassau County winning essay, as well as a $100 check from the Post and a $150 check from the County for his victory. Top prize in the national VFW contest is a $10,000 savings bond.
