New flood maps and their impact on flood insurance rates for Long Island homeowners will be the topic of a public meeting Thursday night in Valley Stream.
Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be at the meeting, the second flood-map meeting since late August.
The meeting will be held at Valley Stream High School, 135 Fletcher Ave., at 7:30 p.m.
FEMA's newly proposed flood maps have drawn the ire of some residents who say their neighborhoods never flood and new maps, which place their homes in designated flood-prone areas, will require the purchase of flood insurance.
A previous meeting held Aug. 31 draw more than 800 people.
