Funeral plans for slain soldier from Farmingville

The family of the U.S. Army Ranger who grew up in Farmingville and was killed last week in an Afghan province has planned his funeral.

There will be a wake for the ranger, Sgt. Jason Santora, 25, on Sunday at Wantagh Abbey, 3374 Park Ave. in Wantagh, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be on Monday at 10 a.m., also at Wantagh Abbey, followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd.

Santora's father, Gary, of Medford, said the funeral procession will receive an escort from the police.

Santora enlisted in 2006 and had deployed several times to Afghanistan and Iraq before he was seriously wounded and killed on Friday.
