Hempstead-Oyster Bay police beat, Dec. 20

Reports from county or village police, Dec. 6-12


Windows were damaged on two vehicles parked at the Broadway Mall at Routes 106 and 107 Dec. 7.

An automobile was stolen from Duffy Avenue Dec. 6.

Blank checks were stolen from a vehicle on North Broadway Dec. 7.


A Massapequa woman, 50, was arrested on Jackson Place Dec. 6 and charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal impersonation and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

A wallet was stolen from a woman while she waited in line at Chase Bank in the Sunrise Mall Dec. 7. It was later found by a bank customer with $2 missing.

A water main break on West End Avenue Dec. 8 caused the roadway to break up and sent debris flying that damaged a 2009 Hyundai and a 2001 Buick parked nearby.

A 2004 Infiniti was damaged during a burglary while it was parked in the Macy's parking lot at the Sunrise Mall Dec. 11. A passenger seat was slashed, windows were smashed, and a dashboard clock was stolen.

Massapequa Park

The rear door of The Curtain Store on Sunrise Highway was discovered pried open Dec. 7, and a cash register containing $300 was stolen.

An attempted burglary occurred on Second Avenue Dec. 10. Police said a 13-year-old girl and her friend were in the home when the family dog started to bark and growl. The girls went to investigate and saw an unknown man, possibly in his 20s or 30s, standing in the living room. The man ran out the front door, which was unlocked. No injuries or loss were reported.


A security officer discovered a small tree had been uprooted at Wantagh Park on Kings Road Dec. 9.


Bay Shore

A West Islip woman, 42, was arrested Dec. 7 at Target on Sunrise Highway and charged with grand larceny 4th degree for stealing merchandise valued at $1,000.


Clothes were stolen from a machine at a Laundromat on Sunrise Highway Dec. 6.

Two unknown men in their early 20s allegedly stole items from CVS Pharmacy on Sunrise Highway Dec. 8. When the suspects were approached by store personnel outside the store, one displayed a switchblade knife, police said.


Three men, described to be in their early 20s, robbed a pedestrian on Hempstead Turnpike Dec. 8. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. Two diamond earrings and $60 were stolen.

A laptop and a guitar were stolen from a 2003 Honda Accord on Elmont Road Dec. 11.

Franklin Square

A leaf blower and tools were discovered stolen from an unlocked garage at a Polk Avenue residence Dec. 6.

A Getty gas station on Franklin Avenue was discovered burglarized Dec. 7; $5,000 worth of cigarettes and $6,000 worth of lottery tickets and phone cards were reported stolen.

GPS navigation devices were stolen Dec. 9 from two vehicles parked on Margaret Drive and Barbara Boulevard.


A 2009 Ford Ecoline van was discovered stolen from Crown Ford on Sunrise Highway Dec. 8.

An Allen Street residence was burglarized through an unlocked side door Dec. 12. Jewelry was stolen.

Jewelry, a TV and an Xbox game console were stolen Dec. 11 during a residential burglary on Lakeview Avenue. A possible suspect, described as male and between 15 to 18 years old, was seen in a black Honda Accord with a missing hubcap.

North Valley Stream

Jewelry was discovered stolen from a Dana Avenue residence Dec. 12.

Rockville Centre

Eyeglasses, valued at approximately $1,500, were stolen from a vehicle parked in a Buckminster Road driveway Dec. 8.

Valley Stream

A 1993 Honda Accord was stolen from the Macy's parking lot at the Green Acres Mall Dec. 6. A male suspect wearing a baseball cap was observed on surveillance video entering the vehicle possibly using a master key, police said.

A Camdike Street residence was burglarized Dec. 12. Robbers entered the home through a rear window and stole jewelry. A suspicious black SUV was reported circling the neighborhood, police said.

A Dawson Drive residence was burglarized Dec. 10. A neighbor reported seeing a green minivan parked nearby and two unknown men outside the home. Jewelry and two flat-screen TVs were stolen.

An attempted burglary occurred on Ocean Avenue Dec. 11. The residence was occupied when a man broke down the rear door. The suspect fled before taking anything, police said, and no injuries were reported.


Three Lakeview men were arrested Dec. 8 at Woodfield Road and Janos Lane on charges of possession of a handgun.

A man wielding a handgun robbed Domino's Pizza on Poplar Street and stole an unknown amount of cash Dec. 12.


A security officer discovered a small tree had been uprooted at Wantagh Park on Kings Road Dec. 9.
