Nominations sought for women's 2015 Pathfinder awards

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray wants residents, schools, businesses and community organizations to nominate outstanding women for the town's 2015 Pathfinder Awards.

The awards, held during National Women's History Month, recognize the achievements of women who have made indelible impacts on their neighbors and communities.

"From teachers educating future generations, to those who volunteer their time to better their communities, women are 'blazing a path' for others to follow, and making the Town of Hempstead an even better place to live, work and raise a family," Murray said.

Women can be nominated for one of nine categories, including arts and entertainment, business, community affairs, education, health services, high school senior, humanitarian, volunteer and Town of Hempstead employee. Nomination forms can be obtained by calling 516-812-3303 and are due by Feb. 10. Nominees must live or work in the town.

Murray, the first woman elected supervisor in the town's 371-year history, plans to host the annual Pathfinder Awards Ceremony on March 10 at 3 p.m. at the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion at Hempstead Town Hall.
