High rip current risk in effect

There's a high rip current risk in effect through Saturday evening for Atlantic Ocean beaches in Nassau and southwestern Suffolk counties, the National Weather Service said.

Surf heights are estimated at 2 to 4 feet, building to 3 to 6 feet, the weather agency said.

With tidal departures of 1 to 1 1/2 feet above astronomical tides, there's a potential for isolated minor coastal flooding during high tide Friday night, forecasters said.
