RONKONKOMA/Truck collision kills 1

One man was killed early Saturday when two pickup trucks collided in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said.

Police didn't release the name of the crash victim pending notification of next of kin.

The crash happened about 12:40 a.m. on Hawkins Avenue at Express Drive North. John Gentilella, 57, of Centereach, was driving a Ford F350 north on Hawkins Avenue when his truck hit a Dodge Ram that was traveling west, police said.

Paramedics took the driver of the Dodge Ram to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:29 a.m., police said. Gentilella was not injured.

Both trucks were impounded. The investigation is continuing. -- KEITH HERBERT

VALLEY STREAM/Roslyn Savings robbed

A bank robber wearing a long wig and a Yankees cap held up a Valley Stream bank Saturday morning, Nassau County police said.

The unshaven robber didn't show a weapon but demanded money, frightening the Roslyn Savings Bank teller into handing over the cash, a police spokeswoman said.

The robbery happened at the branch at 75 N. Central Ave.

Cops are looking for the robber, who's between 5-foot-7 and 6 feet tall and has a dark complexion. In addition to the cap and wig, which had black, curly hair, the robber wore a dark, puffy jacket and blue jeans, police said. No one was hurt. Police wouldn't say how much he stole.

VALLEY STREAM/Knifepoint burglary in home

Men entered a Fir Street home Friday and held a knife to a 17-year-old resident before fleeing with stolen property, Nassau County police said Saturday.

Between three and five men entered the house through a side window about 4:30 p.m., police said. Once inside a second-floor bedroom, the men found the teenager and held a knife to him before punching and hitting him over the head with a vase, police said. The victim suffered head and face injuries and was taken to a hospital. -- KEITH HERBERT
