Officials say a fire appeared to have started in the escalator motor between the first and second floors inside the store which had to be evacuated because it filled with smoke. No injuries were reported and the fire is not considered to be suspicious.

Firefighters answering a call to the Second Avenue residence about 10 p.m. found the fire in the room with the birds. It was under control in about 30 minutes. The occupant was taken to a hospital with injuries that were described as not serious. The fire is being investigated. The wires were live when the firefighters arrived and kept them from extinguishing the blaze that had consumed one vehicle and heavily damaged a second. Copaigue firefighters used three hose lines and a deck gun to knock down the fire and bring under control in about 40 minutes. LEVITTOWN, NY, October 10, 2011---A woman was rescued from the second floor of a burining house at 67 Bobolink Lane in Levittown shortly after 2p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011. With the help of a neighbor, Levittown firefighters were able to remove the female victim from the house. She was transported to Nassau University Medical Center. The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes with no other serious injuries reported. The East Meadow, Wantagh and North Bellmore Fire Departments assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Lynbrook Fire Department was called to 224A Merrick Rd. at about 1:15 a.m. for a reported fire in a bicycle shop in a row of stores. When firefighters arrived, they found the Lynbrook Bicycles store engulfed in flames. The fire completely destroyed the bike shop and damaged two neighboring stores on either side of it and several other stores in the strip suffered smoke and or water damage. (Aug. 23, 2011)

An underground LIPA vault was burning, and knocked out power to most of the stores in the shopping center. The North Amitville Fire Company and Suffolk County Police were called to Essen Drive in North Amityville about 1:40 a.m. for a reported house fire. Units arrived to find the house fully involved and threatening two neighboring homes. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside as it was reported to be a vacant house, most of the house collapsed as the fire was being extinguished. The two houses on either side were also damaged, one of those was also vacant, the other was occupied and it's occupants were uninjured. The fire was under control in about an hour with no reported injuries. The Amityville and Copiague Fire Departments assisted at the scene. The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad was called to investigate the cause. (August 7, 2011)

Copiague- Monday May 2, 2011 The Copiague Fire Dept. responded to Tanner Park on Baylawn Avenue about 5:30 pm for reported brush fire. When firefighters arrived they encountered a large section of brush burning with flames 15 feet high. With the use of multiple hose lines the fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes. Copiague responded with two Chiefs, four Engines, one Heavy Rescue and two utility trucks.

A house fire caused "extensive damage" to a two-story home in Huntington Station Thursday night, despite the efforts of more than 60 volunteer firefighters, officials said. One woman was taken to Huntington Hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation. Her condition was not known on Friday.Fire officials said the fire at the house on East 21st Street was reported at 8:25 p.m. Firefighters from the Huntington Manor, Huntington and Melville responded with 10 trucks and brought the fire under control within about a half-hour, officials said. The woman, whose identity was not released, was taken to the hospital by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad. The Suffolk County police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the incident. (April 28, 2011)

The East Farmingdale Fire Company was called to Smith Street at 2:40 am for a car fire. Arriving units found a Saturn sedan fully involvled in a rear parking lot of the building. Firefighters used hose line to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes with no injuries reported. (March 29, 2011)

The Medford Fire Department responded to a house fire on Acorn Avenue at 11:42 a.m. The fire caused extensive damage to the home but the Suffolk County police department said the occupant was able to get out just before the fire department arrived. North Patchogue and Farmingville fire departments arrived to assist in putting out the blaze. (March 31, 2011)

Three area fire departments assisted the Coram Fire Department in response to a 9:30 a.m. house fire on Chardonnay Drive in Coram. There were no injuries reported and the home was totally destroyed. (March 30, 2011)

Copiague- Tuesday March 29, 2011 The Copiague Fire Dept. was called to 59 E. Saltaire Road about 6:00 pm. Firefighters found fire showing from a second floor deck that spread into the house doing damage to multiple rooms. The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes with no reported injuries, the cause is under investigation but is believed to have started in a propane barbecue on the deck. The Lindenhurst and Amityville Fire Depts. assisted at the scene.

Roosevelt Fire Dept. responded to fire on 3/26/11,

Roosevelt Fire Dept. responded to fire on 3/26/11, a little after 4:00 pm, at 54 Manfield Ave, Roosevelt. On arrival, house was fulling engulfed. The fire dept was hampered with live electrical wires in front of the house. The fire took about an hour to control. Occupants escaped without harm. House was a total lost. Fire Marshals are invested and the The Red Cross was called to the scene.

The Hicksville fire department responds to house fire Saturday morning on Townsend Lane in Hicksville. Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes with about 30 firefighters on scene; Levittown firefighters also responded to the scene. (March 26, 2011)

The injured person was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. Fire units from Massapequa, Amityville and South Farmingdale responded to a 911 call about the blaze.
