Centenarian: Mae Luisi

Mae Luisi was born Oct. 4, 1913, in Harlem and then her family moved to Astoria, Queens, when she was 5. She worked as a seamstress and a sample maker from age 12 until her retirement at 62. She married Frank Luisi (now deceased) in 1939, had two children -- Anna and John -- and lived in Astoria. Mae has seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed cooking and sewing and made bassinet coverlets for the newborn babies of her family. She lives at the Huntington Hills Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Melville, where she celebrated her birthday with family.
