Suffolk County anniversaries, Oct. 27:

65thJEAN AND BILL TURSELLINOof Sound Beach were wed June 12, 1948, at St. Agnes Church in Brooklyn. They celebrated with family. Bill is a retired captain with the New York City Fire Department. Jean enjoyed working in the Empire State Building when she was young. They had 10 children, nine of whom survive, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


SLOBODAof Islip were wed Sept. 17, 1949, at St. Mary's Church in East Islip. They celebrated with family at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where both had been admitted for health issues. Peter retired from General Bronze Corp. in Garden City. He is an Army veteran who served during World War II, receiving the French Legion of Honor Medal in 2010. Dorothy retired from Macy's in Bay Shore. They have three children and one grandchild.

60thANN AND HERB MEISENof Commack were wed Sept. 5, 1953, at St. Raphael's Church in Sunnyside, Queens. They celebrated with a cruise to Bermuda. Herb is a retired officer with the New York City Fire Department. Ann is a fitness instructor at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack. They have three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

50thANN (MOSSA) AND FRANK COLANGELOof Deer Park, formerly of Bayville and Glen Cove, were wed Sept. 29, 1963, at St. Gertrude's Church in Bayville. They celebrated on a cruise to the Bahamas with their family. The celebration continued with a surprise party at The Irish Coffee Pub in East Islip, hosted by their two daughters and five grandchildren. Both are retired.


SHAFFERof Stony Brook, formerly of Northport, were wed Sept. 7, 1963. They celebrated with dinner at the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook with family and friends. Robert retired from Met Life in Manhattan. They have two children and six grandchildren.

25thKATHY AND JIM SASSof Ronkonkoma were wed Sept. 17, 1988, at Presbyterian Church in Deer Park. They celebrated with a trip to Hatteras Island, N.C. Kathy is a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. Jim is a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Islip. They have two children.
