LIPA approves contract to hire electrical inspectors

UNIONDALE - The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has approved a contract to hire electrical inspectors to inspect homes before the power can be turned back on.

Prior to the contract, volunteer firefighters were hired to inspect flood-damaged homes.

LIPA says it did not anticipate home flooding and damage to electrical systems in its disaster plan prior to the storm.

The contract will bring on members of the New York Electrical Association and Local 25 IBEW to conduct the work.
